Exploring the 2026 Blissfest Lineup, Part IV
Silent Disco DJs
As soon as the Main Stage goes quiet, the Silent Disco lights up. The only sound you hear is the random “woo” or the crowd spontaneously bursting into a singalong. Otherwise, it’s a party you’ll only hear if you have on the signature Silent Disco headphones. Three channels and three DJs spinning at once, you get to choose your vibe.
Modeled after a Detroit Rave, the Silent Disco evolved to be a highly curated event. Over 10 years ago, a young Blissfest patron came to us and said we needed something to keep the next generation interested. Together with his dad, the Ellisons and friends, put together the late night, multi-channel disco in the middle of a folk festival. We thought it was risky, but you gotta keep the kids happy, right? It’s now a tradition and continues to thrive!
Each year, our friend Danny Villa of the Wax Kings from Belleville, MI curates a group of 19 DJs, primarily from the active Detroit scene, to create an inimitable late-night moment for those not quite ready for their cozy camp cot. As it turns out, Belleville is considered the birthplace of techno. In the early 1980s, the “Belleville Three,” Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, started blending funk, electronic music, and futuristic sounds into something entirely new: techno. As Derrick May once described it, “It’s like George Clinton and Kraftwerk stuck in an elevator” capturing the collision of funk and electronic music. This expansive and forward-facing sound could also be reflective of Detroit’s grit and the imprint of Motown.
We’re thrilled to highlight a small part of this Michigan culture story. This is your year to stop by and try it for yourself!
Pick your channel, dance it out, find your people, switch it up, and keep the party going.
