Following the July 23, 2026 update from the Emmet County Sheriff's Office, Blissfest is sharing the following message.

Our hearts go out to everyone who has reached out with concern following reports that an individual connected to this year’s event may have been the victim of an assault. From the moment Blissfest became aware of this situation, the organization has cooperated fully with law enforcement as they carefully reviewed the circumstances surrounding this sensitive incident. Out of respect for the investigative process and those affected, Blissfest has refrained from commenting on unverified claims.

Today, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office shared that investigators have not found any evidence suggesting that this incident was a targeted attack.

This situation has understandably stirred deep concern and speculation. Everyone is encouraged to review the Sheriff’s statement. Blissfest will continue to honor the privacy of Mr. Hartman and his family and will not comment further on personal medical or other sensitive details. Our thoughts remain with all affected.

For more than four decades, Blissfest has been rooted in love, peace, unity, and the belief that music brings people together. Healing and support resources are being compiled to connect our staff, board, volunteers, artists, presenters, production crew, vendors, sponsors, partners, members, and patrons with access to care, connection, and information that may be helpful during this difficult time. Now is a time to support one another and extend compassion.
